Sharon L. Bryant

Sharon L. Bryant, 66, of Norfolk, Va., died Friday, April 17, 2009.

Born April 7, 1943 in Greencastle, she was the daughter of Harold and Mary Knauer Day. She was a graduate of Greencastle High School, Indiana State University with a bachelor of science in English and history and received her masters of arts in history from Indiana State University. She earned a certificate of distance education from University College, University of Maryland. She married Sgt. Donald A. Bryant, USAF, and he preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Bryant retired from the Civil Service in 2003 as a professor of business contract management for the Department of Defense. She taught employees of the Department of Energy, Department of Defense and NASA, among others.

She was a member of the Phi Alpha Theta history honorary and the Sigma Tau Delta English honorary. She was also a past member of the United States Daughters of the War of 1812 and the National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution Washburn Chapter. She enjoyed family history, flower gardening, quilting, reading and was coordinator for four genetic genealogy projects.

Survivors include her children, James P. Bryant and wife Anita of Terre Haute, Andrew J. Bryant of Norfolk and Jennifer Mason of Norfolk; three brothers, Stan Day and wife Marla of California, David Day and wife Rita of Kentucky and Dallas Day of Greencastle; three grandchildren, James Robert Bryant of Greencastle, Clayton Levi Mason of Norfolk and Michael Alexander Bryant of Terre Haute; three step-grandchildren, Justin, Matthew and Sarah Stieglitz of Terre Haute; four great-grandchildren, Quentin Wagner, Joe Stieglitz, Corbin Fyfe and Bella Fyfe.

She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.

Graveside memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday at the Forest Hill Cemetery with Fr. Stephen Jarrell officiating. Inurnment will follow.

Calling will be from 6 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home.
