Bartholomew County was founded in 1821 and was named for Lt. Col. Joseph Batholomew. Columbus is the county seat. Bartholomew County is divided into 12 Townships; Clay, Clifty, Columbus, Flat Rock, German, Harrison, Haw Creek, Jackson, Ohio, Rock Creek, Sand Creek and Wayne. It covers an area of 409 square miles. In 2015, the population was 81,162.
