SARAH H. LEE DIES FOLLOWING BRIEF ILLNESS
Widow of Late David R. Lee Died Early This Morning
Mrs. Sarah Helen Lee, 84, widow of the late David R. Lee of this community, died this morning at 8:30 o'clock at the old family homestead, four miles north of Washington on the Swan Pond Road, following a brief illness of catarrhal fever and complications. The aged woman was taken ill one week ago and had been in a serious condition all the time, death coming early today to end her suffering. For the past few months she had been making her home with a son, Carlton Lee, who had been living on the family homestead for several years. Due to the serious illness of Mrs. Carlton Lee, the body of the deceased woman will be removed today to the home of another son, Lester Lee, east of Washington on Road 50 and will remain there until the hour of the funeral. The deceased was born on September 7, 1851, in Decatur county, being a daughter of Mitchell and Charlotte (Avery) Pearce, both of Decatur county. She married Mr. Lee on January 29, 1874, and he preceded her in death last October 13 at the age of 85 years. The family came to Daviess county 48 years ago, and had been here ever since. Mrs. Lee was a member of the Sugarland Methodist church. Surviving are four children, Lester, Carlton and Charles Lee, all of Washington township, and Mrs. Oscar Standley, of Hendricks county. Two other children preceded Mrs. Lee in death. There are no brothers or sisters surviving. Funeral services are to be held Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock at the First Methodist church in this city, with interment to be made in Oak Grove cemetery. Ed Keller will have charge of the funeral.
