Ben Van Winkle Taken by Death This Afternoon;
Death Came at Son's Home West of Montgomery H.S
Benjamin J. VanWinkle, 82 years old, a retired farmer living a quarter mile west of the Montgomery high school building, died this afternoon at 12:10 o'clock, death coming after a short illness of complications.
Mr. VanWinkle, a retired farmer, had been a lifelong resident of Daviess county, having been born in this county on February 22, 1852. His parents were Anderson & Sarah (Burris) VanWinkle. His wife preceded him in death on January 26, 1907 (sic).
The deceased man was a member of the Central Christian Church of Washington. Funeral arrangements have not been completed, but burial will be made in the cemetery north of Alfordsville. Elwood Williams will have charge of the funeral.
Surviving Mr. VanWinkle are the following children: John W. VanWinkle, where he had made his home recently; Mrs. Emmett Wininger of Barr township; Robert & Elmer VanWinkle of Mooresville. There also is one sister, Mrs. Mary Perkins of Elnora.
In addition there are 32 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. Mr. VanWinkle was widely known in the Montgomery neighborhood, and for many years was an active farmer in the community. His many friends will regret to learn of his passing.
